Statement of the Federation of Kurdistan Diaspora Women on International Women's Day
On the occasion of March 8th, International Women's Day, the Kurdistan Diaspora Women’s Federation extends its warmest congratulations to the struggling women of Kurdistan and all women across the globe. For us, this day is more than just an annual event; it is a vital station to renew our pledge toward achieving gender equality and protecting the fundamental rights of women, wherever they may be.
Our federation reaffirms that the struggle for women's dignity is an inseparable part of both national and humanitarian struggles. We call for the unification of all efforts to eradicate violence and foster a safe environment where women are recognized as the primary drivers of change and prosperity.
On this occasion, we proudly highlight the "Kazi" (Braid) Campaign, a civil and symbolic movement that introduced the world to the courage of Kurdish women. The braiding of hair by Kurdish girls was a clear message of unity and a powerful show of support for the women of Rojava. They proved that their braids are a strong bond connecting the will of Kurdish women across all four parts of the homeland in their defiance against obscurantism. This act compelled the world to look with great respect at the unity and immense resolve of Kurdish girls.
We firmly believe that true change is achieved through civil awareness and the solidarity of women themselves. Our duty in the diaspora is to exert pressure on international centers to ensure the national and gender rights of our people are protected. We strive to build a society where women are key actors in all decision-making processes and where no form of discrimination against female dignity is tolerated.
In conclusion, we call for the unity of all Kurdish women around the world. Let March 8th be the catalyst for establishing social justice. Salutations to all women who refuse to remain silent in the pursuit of freedom and equality.
Once again, Happy International Women's Day to all women in Kurdistan and the world.
