A conference on the Yazidi genocide and conflict-related sexual violence was held in Duhok
To commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, today, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the High Council of Women and Development, in partnership with the University of Duhok and the "Tirêjên Rojê" organization, held a conference under the slogan "Commemorating the Yazidi Tragedy" at the university's conference hall.
The conference was attended by Dr. Khanzad Ahmad, Secretary-General of the High Council of Women; Professor Dr. Dawood Atrooshi, President of the University of Duhok; Majid Sayed Salih, Deputy Governor; Shirin Zaki, President of the Kurdistan Diaspora Women’s Federation; along with a number of officials and activists.
It is worth noting that the Kurdistan Regional Government and its institutions, in partnership with civil society, international, and local organizations, as well as survivor networks, have worked together to create a robust framework of legal, psychological, and economic support for all survivors.
