Message from the KDWF On the Anniversary of the Genocide of the Yezidi Kurds

Today marks the eleventh anniversary of the horrific genocide committed against the Yezidi Kurds by the terrorist group ISIS in Sinjar. During this atrocity, countless innocent Yezidi civilians — women, children, and men — were brutally killed.

The suffering endured by our Yezidi brothers and sisters represents one of the most horrific crimes against humanity in the 21st century. Such barbarity is rare even in the darkest chapters of human history. It is clear that the aim of this extremist group was to exterminate the Yezidis because of their Kurdish identity and distinct religious beliefs.

Sadly, genocide and mass atrocities are not new to the Kurdish people. From Anfal to Sinjar, Kurds have long been victims of systematic violence. Yet, in the face of this oppression, the Kurdish people have remained proud, resilient, and unwavering in their pursuit of justice and freedom. Our perseverance sends a clear message to the world: the Kurdish spirit cannot be broken.

On this solemn occasion, we honor the memory of all the martyrs of Kurdistan. Your sacrifices have become the foundation of our strength and dignity. You are a symbol of resistance, and your legacy continues to inspire generations to fight for a free and dignified future.
