Suspected Shooter in Hawari Shar Linked to Former Homicide Case

In the Hawari neighborhood of the city in Sulaymaniyah province, a gunshot was heard.

Our reporter quickly arrived at the scene and spoke with several eyewitnesses who reported that some workers were working at the house of one of their relatives when a few individuals arrived, there was a verbal altercation, and shortly after, a confrontation occurred. It appears that one of those individuals later drew a weapon, and one of the workers was seriously injured after being hit by two bullets.

To investigate the incident further, we visited the city hospital in Sulaymaniyah, where the victim’s family informed us that their son’s health condition is unstable, but he was able to tell them that someone named (Sh.A.A) had shot him. This individual has had a long-standing social dispute with his sister (N.S.KH) and had previously threatened to kill her, but had not acted on the threat because he had been missing for a while.

It is worth noting that this suspect had previously committed a crime where he killed a woman. According to the victim’s relatives, this man was released from prison at the end of 2024 through tribal reconciliation and mediation. Since then, he has made several threats toward this family, and today he seriously injured the citizen (H.S.KH) and fled to an unknown location. He has not yet turned himself in to the police.

Our reporter was informed that this family claims (Sh.A.A) is being supported by a Peshmerga commander who is also a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s leadership. He is allegedly being protected by this individual, which allows him to continue committing crimes without consequences. They say he is a dangerous person with a significant criminal history.
